Design tables to BS EN 1993-1-1
- This website contains pre-generated design tables to Eurocode 3.
- The pre-generated tables to Eurocode 3 will benefit from the following range of functionality, which will be implemented in the next release of the website:
- Design table data can be exported directly to MS Excel (or in CSV format if Excel is not installed).
- Design tables can be formatted either to best-fit A4 sheets when printing or display as unbroken data for optimal on-screen viewing.
- Quick navigation links are provided within tables, allowing for moving directly to a desired section range or to related tables.
- Table rows and/or columns can be highlighted for quick reference and such highlighting included in printed output.
Notes and tolerances
- Notes on section property tables, notes on member resistance tables and explanatory notes taken from SCI's publication Steel Building Design: Design Data - the 'Blue Book' (P363) are available.
- Details of manufacturing tolerances are also available for BS and Advance® sections.
Scope of design data
This website provides access to design data for a range of hot rolled sections that are BS compliant, including: Beams, Columns, Bearing Piles, Parallel Flange Channels, Angles and Structural Tees. It also includes the Advance® range of sections manufactured by Tata Steel as well as a selection of European sections manufactured by ArcelorMittal. All design data is generated from the root software functions used to populate SCI's publication P363, in accordance with Eurocodes and the UK National Annexes.
The Advance® name covers the full range of hot rolled sections from Tata Steel and the Advance® mark is rolled into the steel for ease of identification and traceability. Increasingly a least weight structural design approach does not necessarily mean least cost in whole building terms. Often structural depth has a major impact on overall cost due to the high cost of the building envelope. Where services are to be integrated with the structure a beam sized specifically for the passage of those services is often appropriate. The Advance® range gives designers the flexibility to achieve the most effective structural solution from our hot rolled sections.
The Steel Construction Institute (SCI) develops and promotes the effective use of steel in construction. It is an independent, membership based organisation.
SCI's research and development activities cover many aspects of steel construction including multi-storey construction, industrial buildings, light steel framing systems and modular construction, development of design guidance on the use of stainless steel, fire engineering, bridge and civil engineering, offshore engineering, environmental studies, value engineering, and development of structural analysis systems and information technology.
Membership is open to all organisations and individuals that are concerned with the use of steel in construction. Members include designers, contractors, suppliers, fabricators, academics and government departments in the United Kingdom, elsewhere in Europe and in countries around the world. The SCI is financed by subscriptions from its members, revenue from research contracts and consultancy services, publication sales and course fees.
The benefits of corporate membership include access to an independent specialist advisory service and free issue of SCI publications as soon as they are produced. A Membership Information Pack is available on request from the Membership Manager.
